_mg_1200_wagtails_webreadyAbout Us

Oz Wagtails company was formed in 2006, formally Wagtails Obedience Training which commenced business in November 1991 formed by Tabitha & Richard Young.

A family orientated business was created to help dog owners train their dogs in areas of obedience and good manners.  We pride ourselves with listening to the wants andneeds of our customers over the years, and have adopted a training and behaviour program which others have since copied. Still 21 years on, training up to 1000 dogs per year, our business continues to grow in strength with our new Dog Daycare Centre giving, once again, a service required by dog owners. The daycare was formed to enable people own a dog and be able to work the long hours required by the modern family.

Tabithais strong believer in walking her talk.  Every part of her courses have been tried and tested on her own dogs.  Everything she and her trainers recommend, have worked with 1000's of other dogs and her own.  Her family unit includes a very supportive husband, two very talented children who have grown up in the "dog" world and are fast becoming, if not already, excellent dog handlers themselves.

Tabitha is highly competitive in the obedience and now the Dancing with Dogs ring, as you can see by her own dogs.  Having also competed with Border Collies and German Shepherds she ventured out into the gundog world and trained a Golden Retriever.  Having gained many obedience titles with all her dogs over the past 20 years she has also coached many top competitors to do the same.  Tabitha's love for the sport engaged her to become a senior obedience judge with Dogs Qld and this usually takes her all over Australia juding obedience on all levels.  Certified in England as a Dog Behaviourist, Original Australian Canine Good Citizen trainer, Certified Military Dog Handler, plus many other certificates including a Certificate 4 in Training and Assessing.

There are no fads, gimicks or even new inventions here at Oz Wagtails, all training given is what Tabitha uses on her own dogs. Our Classes are renown for its behaviour and obedience content. Our courses are designed to suit every dog owner and their need for a socialised, well mannered dog in our society.

Oz Wagtails has become one of the leaders in Dog Training and comes highly recommended by other trainers, veternarians and dog professionals.

A trainer of excellence having trained most of Brisbane's vet nurses in puppy management, she has also trained many other trainers that have now since started their own businesses around Brisbane and Sydney.

This has also been acheived by very talented members of her staff.  All of Oz Wagtail's trainers have been trained by Tabitha in areas of animal behaviour and training methods. Our staff undergo 12 months of inital training, but in the world of training dogs, you never stop learning.  Our trainers work together in helping our customers achieve the best results.  Our staff are always attending seminars, training sessions and keeping up to date with international training standards.

This is our fur family:-

Flame - 13-year old Golden Retriever.  Doing her proud this dog has gained her obedience Championship (highest level in obedience) at the age of 11 years she went on to gain further titles in Dancing with Dogs Freestyle and Heelwork to music up to Intermediate level.  Due to her aging body (not her mind) Tabitha retired Flame at the age of 12 years.  She is a

lways a favourte to take and show off her vast amount of skills.  People will often find Flame in our retail store as she often loves the pats that our customers are so willing to give her.

Aria - a 8 year old Jack Russell Terrier (belongs to her daughter, Brittney), Is the only Jack Russell Terrier in Australia to obtain a Dancing with Dogs title.  Brittney is 18 years of age and is the youngest Australian to obtain this title with a dog. She has also won first place at the Brisbane Ekka.  She is now having lots of fun in the obedience comptition world and has gained her CCD and CD Title and is currently underway with CDX (Open) and is about to embark on the Agility scene.

Ruby - an adopted Belgium Shepherd Malinois -5 years old.  Ruby came into our lives as a 12 month old dog that needed a home to provide her more stimulation through work.  She arrived a very nervous dog but has improved and is now compteting with Tabitha in the obedience world - she has gained a CCD, CD, CDX and is not currently working in the UD ring.  Ruby has also gained her starters and Novice titles in the Dancing with dogs Freestyle and Heelwork to Music.  In 2011 Ruby won at the Brisbane Ekka with her Freestyle and Heelwork routines - made her mum very proud.Ruby

Whip Border CollieWhip - 12 month old Border Collie.  Whip primarily belongs to Brandon Young.  Brandon, since loosing his German Shepherd, decided he would love a Border Collie, just like our old boy, Khe Sahn.  Brandon has trained Whip to Novice level and is one qualifier off obtaining his CD Title.  He is currently training him for the Open obedience ring, and mum, Tabitha is also teaching him some Dancing with Dogs moves in readiness for comptition later on.

Past Dogs.....

Vegas as a 2 year old German Shepherd Dog and belongs primarily to Brandon.   Vegas came into our lives as an 8 week old puppy suffering with a medical problem and we were not sure if she would survivie puppyhood.  Well she did, and she was a very strong dog both mentally and pysically. Brandong trained Vegas for the obedience ring and obtained her CCD title and had one leg in Novice.  Unfortunately, we ost our beautiful girl, Vegas to a genetic disease called Gastric Torsion.  Her short life with us was a pleasure and she will be sadly missed, especially by Brandon as together they were great buddies.

Mission Statement

To provide animal owners a place where they can leave their pet dogs and trust their well-being is taken in high regard. To ensure all dogs are exercised and enjoy play time under supervision under dog trainers and vet nurses to promote the utmost in behaviour. To provide a fun and pleasurable environment for all pet dogs that stay at wags day out

Wags day out is not all about the play session, its about their behaviour during the play, the time frame and the interaction between dogs of all sizes and breeds. There will also be walk times, rest times and fun times which include massages, brushing and cuddle time. Our staff are highly trained in areas such as canine body language, psychology, breed characteristics and age limitations.

Most pet owners find that while their dogs attend dog day care on a weekly basis, that most of the unwanted behaviour problems around the home are eliminated. Why? Because no longer are dogs bored by being left in the back yard.
