A Day at Oz Wagtails Dog Daycare Brisbane

When you drop your dog off at Oz Wagtails, you’re not just getting them out of the house — you’re giving them a fun and enriching day built entirely around what dogs need to thrive!

Conveniently located on the Centenary Highway at the Darra exit, our Brisbane dog daycare centre is an easy commute whether you're coming from Ipswich CBD, Springfield Central, or closer to the Gold Coast.

Our daily routine is built to support your dog’s physical health, mental stimulation, and emotional balance — all in a calm and structured environment.

Drop-Off: 6:30–8:30 AM

The day begins with early arrivals — and it’s not just for your convenience!

  • Early drop-off gives dogs time to acclimatise, explore the space, and greet playmates calmly before the day gets busy.

  • Our staff will greet your dog at the back gate and check for any updates on behaviour, health, or care needs to help ensure a safe and comfortable day.

  • This window is particularly helpful for shy or first-time daycare dogs, offering a low-pressure start to their day.

While mornings can be busy, our staff are focused on helping each dog feel calm, safe, and ready for the day ahead.

Morning Activities: 9:00–10:30 AM

Once the group is settled, energy lifts and it’s time to move.Morning is typically the most active part of the day and we like to take this opportunity to burn it off.

  • Dogs are grouped by size, energy, and play style to encourage positive social interaction.

  • Morning activities change daily but may include supervised play sessions, obstacle courses, toy-time, or confidence-building games.

  • On nice days, we take short walks past familiar local spots — perhaps you’ve seen us near the Big Red Shed, Centenary Landscaping, or even while you sip coffee at Perivale Cafe.

  • When it’s rainy or too hot, we shift to indoor activities that engage the dogs mentally, using our agility equipment and simple training games to keep them focused and stimulated.

The morning sessions are tailored each day based on who’s in daycare and how they’re feeling that particular day. Some mornings are buzzing with high-energy play, while others may focus on gentle socialising or confidence-building exercises.

Rest Time: 11:00 AM–1:00 PM

Rest is a critical component of a well-balanced daycare routine. Just as dogs naturally nap throughout the day at home, a dedicated midday break allows them to recharge and maintain emotional and physical balance for the afternoon ahead.

  • All play stops and dogs are guided into the boarding kennels for a midday snooze

  • Lights are dimmed, music is stopped, and the environment is kept still and calm

  • No pick-ups or transitions occur during this time to minimise disruption

This quiet time allows every dog to rest, process the morning’s excitement, and recharge for the afternoon. It’s especially beneficial for puppies, older dogs, and those with more sensitive temperaments. At home, dogs naturally nap throughout the day — so we’ve built this into the Oz Wagtails routine to prevent overstimulation and support calm, balanced behaviour for the rest of the day.

Afternoon Play: 1:00–4:00 PM

After a well-earned rest, the dogs are recharged and ready to ease back into the afternoon. Play resumes at a gentler pace, tailored to their natural dip in energy later in the day

  • Activities are adjusted to suit the group’s energy, with more gentle play encouraged.

  • This is often when shy or newer dogs start to come out of their shell. With quieter energy around them, they’re more comfortable engaging with staff and other dogs.

  • Hands-on care like brushing, light grooming, and body handling help dogs get comfortable with being touched in ways that prepare them for vet and grooming visits.

  • Afternoons are a great time for reinforcing routines and observing behavioural progress. Dogs who attend regularly begin to settle into the rhythm, showing more confidence and social ease over time.

This is often one of our staff’s favourite parts of the day. With the room calm and quiet, many dogs naturally come over for a cuddle or a gentle pat — and we’re always more than happy to share those peaceful moments. It’s a lovely chance to bond and help each dog feel safe, loved, and right at home.

Pick-Up: 4:00–6:00 PM

The final part of the day is all about winding down! Play transitions into quiet time, helping dogs relax before heading home

  • Staff provide handovers with updates on your dog’s day, mood, and any highlights

  • We're available to answer questions or flag anything we’ve noticed

Our later pick-up window allows dogs to enjoy a full day without feeling rushed. By the time you collect your dog, they’re happy, tired, and ready to relax at home.

Extra Activities & Seasonal Fun

While routine is important, the dogs enjoy a little variety — and we do too!. Depending on the season, weather, and suitability of the group, we offer dog daycare adventures for dogs who are well-matched for the experience.

  • Winter Season:
    Hikes
are offered to dogs who are physically capable, lead-trained, and enjoy exploring. These longer on-lead walks take us through scenic local areas like Edenbrooke Park and Pooh Corner Reserve.

  • Summer Season:
    Beach days
are a paid experience offered to regular daycare dogs who enjoy the water and have strong staff relationships. These outings are held at The Spit on the Gold Coast, one of Queensland’s most popular dog-friendly beaches.

These extras are run by experienced staff who know each dog well, so participation is always tailored to ability, behaviour, and preference. They add an extra layer of fun without disrupting the consistency dogs rely on.

Routine Matters

Dogs don’t just enjoy routine — they need it. A consistent, well-paced day helps reduce anxiety, improves social skills, and fosters calm behaviour.

At Oz Wagtails, our schedule provides just the right balance of movement, engagement, and downtime. Whether your dog is energetic, reserved, or somewhere in between, we aim to meet them where they are.
